VW RACE TOUAREG 2009 - DETAILS COMMAND CENTER

Like its exterior, the interior of the Race Touareg 2 has been designed for uncompromising efficiency.

This is particularly true of the controls in the cockpit – they have been arranged for optimum operation by both the driver and co-driver during the course of a rally day. Here are some key examples: while the co-driver has access to two so-called trip masters and two GPS units for navigation – one of each as a spare – the driver’s view is focused on just the essential information about the route: the direction of the compass. A speed limiter, which reduces speed while driving through towns or villages, is within his direct reach as well as another feature of the command centre: the switch for the hydraulic jack system in case of a tyre change.

More interior comfort

Many detailed improvements made to the Volkswagen Race Touareg for the 2009 Dakar Rally can be found in the interior compartment of the cross-country rally vehicle: in addition to improved vision for the driver, enabled by a flatter bonnet, the driver and co-driver can use an air conditioning system on particularly hot legs of the rally. This plus in comfort improves concentration on the daily legs which may cover as many as 800 kilometres.
